Isolation, Identification and Chinese Herbal Medicine Control of Enteritis Pathogenic Bacteria from Trachinotus Ovatus

  • Strain 05A was isolated from Trachinotus ovatus specimens with intestinal erosion and anal outbreak. Challenge experiments using strain 05A on healthy T. ovatus and bacterial re-isolation from challenged diseased golden pompano showed that the bacteria strain named 05A induced identical pathological symptoms, indicating that it is the causative pathogen of the disease. According to the morphological characteristics, physiological and biochemical properties, and 16S rRNA sequences, the isolate 05A was identified as Vibro harveyi. Bacteriostatic test of Chinese herbal medicine revealed that garlic, catechu, gallnut and pomegranate peel had good bacteriostatic effect on the strain 05A, followed by Agrimonia pilosa, Coptis chinensis, Scutellaria baicalensis, Glycyrrhiza uralensis, Rheum palmatum, Schisandra chinensis, and Terminalia chebula.
