Abstract:
In order to select a new male variety of poplar adapted to the climate condition in Xinyang area, the seedling raising and regional afforestation experiments were carried out on the introduced Zhouxiong No. 1 poplar in Dongpu town, Luoshan county, with Zhonglin No. 46 poplar as the control. During this period, the morphological characteristics, phenology, seedling adaptability, survival rate and resistance of Zhouxiong No. 1 poplar were observed. The results showed that Zhouxiong No. 1 poplar had the characteristics of small lateral branches, more branches, no obvious whorled large lateral branches, compact crown, no obvious layer, drought resistance, high survival rate and strong adaptability. The tree height and DBH growth of 4-year-old Zhouxiong No. 1 poplar and Zhonglin No. 46 poplar were investigated and analyzed. There were significant differences in tree height and DBH growth between the two breeds. The average volume growth per tree of Zhouxiong No. 1 was 31.8% higher than that of Zhonglin No. 46, indicating that Zhouxiong No. 1 poplar had obvious growth advantages. It can be used as a new generation of male improved variety in the production of poplar in Xinyang and its surrounding areas.
