Abstract:
The effects of NaCl stress on germination and physiological characteristics of
Veronica persica Poir. were investigated, and the physiological characteristics were compared with
Trifolium repens. The results showed that: 25~50 mmol/L, while 75~100 mmol/L NaCl stress had no obvious effect on germination rate, but affected seedling cotyledon expansion. With the increase of NaCl concentration, the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) increased first and then decreased, while the activity of white clover continued to decrease. The proline content of
Veronica persica Poir. rised steadily, but that of
Trifolium repens decreased firstly and then rising. The MDA content of both plants increased slowly, but the MDA content of
Veronica persica Poir. was always lower than that of
Trifolium repens. Inconclusion: the seed germination of
Veronica persica Poir. could better tolerate low concentration of NaCl stress, while
Veronica persica Poir. could better regulate its physiological and biochemical reactions to adapt to NaCl stress than
Trifolium repens.
