Abstract: Taking 18 prefecture level cities in Henan province as research units, the spatial-temporal characteristics of urban-rural coordination are revealed, and the strategies for rural revitalization are seeked. By constructing the evaluation index system of rural development and urbanization level, the coupling coordination model is used to analyze the spatial-temporal evolution of coupling coordination in 2006, 2011 and 2016. The results show that: (1) Since 2006, the overall level of rural development in Henan province has been improved, and the pattern of high in the north and the south, and low in the middle has become more obvious. (2) There are distinct differences in the development of urbanization among different cities, showing a gradual decline from west to east. (3) The overall coupling state of urban and rural areas is getting better, and the North-South difference of coupling regions is significant. (4) From 2006 to 2016, the coupling coordination of rural development and urbanization in Henan province was continuously optimized, and the regional differences were gradually reduced. The spatial distribution of rural development and urbanization in Henan province evolved from high in the west and low in the east to weaken around Zhengzhou city, and then gradually decreased from northwest to south-east.In the future, on the basis of urban-rural integration development strategy, each city should adjust measures to local conditions and rely on its own advantages to formulate development plans.
