Abstract:
The morphology and annulus chararacteristics of
Pseudogastromyzon (
Labigastromyzon)
changtingensis tungpeiensiswere described by four aging materials (otoolith, scale, vertebra and operculum) in Beijiang river during May and June and from August to November of 2013, and then the suitable aging materials were determined in terms of interpretability agreement. The results showed that the incremental deposition on the vertebra was distinct, demonstrating an obvious alternate opaque zone and translucent zone under reflected light. While otoolith and operculum were not showed clearly, leading to underestimateding aging. The annuli characteristics of scale displayed a patterm of alternating zones of widely and closely spaced circular, and the outer edges of the circular were annuli. The vertebra and scale interpret ability of
Pseudogastromyzon (
Labigastromyzon)
changtingensis tungpeiensis were 94.27% and 72.43%, respectively. Ages assigned based on vertebra and scale from the same specimen by two independent Identifiers, age agreement of Pseudogastromyzon (Labigastromyzon) changtingensis tungpeiens is 93.92% and 63.33%, respectively. The percent age of agreement values for vertebra and scale between two age reading results was 85% and 81.67%, respectively. To summarize, vertebra are the best age determination material for
Pseudogastromyzon (
Labigastromyzon)
changtingensis tungpeiensisin Beijiang river. Scales can be used for age determination of individuals less than 4 years old, while otoolith and operculum are not suitable for determining the age of
Pseudogastromyzon (
Labigastromyzon)
changtingensis tungpeiensis.
